PREVENTING WEATHERING AND EROSION ON IMMEDIATE STRATA IN MINING AND UNDERGROUND APPLICATIONS.

- December 2021

Safety is the name of the game when working underground. Weathering on the immediate strata is a major problem that we see in mining situations, especially underground. Scaling creates an opportunity for injury, and we all know that protecting our workers is priority number one.

Coming from the coalfields of central Appalachia and working underground regularly installing mine seals and shotcrete, we noticed that this was a consistent problem on many jobsites. Previously, many companies would solve this problem with shotcrete applications. While this does solve the issue and does provide structure, shotcrete is not always the answer.

Wright Concrete in conjunction with Wright-Mix Material developed TSL Flexnite, a thin skin liner that is designed to be sprayed at a thickness of .25 inches. The primary goal of this product is not to provide structure, but to prevent weathering on the immediate strata of the roof and ribs. Prevention of erosion saves you time, and we all know that time is money.

We are able to achieve this by working with our blending and bagging division to develop a proprietary product that hits the market at a significantly lower price point. Wright concrete is the primary installer of Flexnite across the country. We have completed installs well over 50,000 sq/ft and are equipped to take on jobs at any scale.
