This project back in 2020 was a fun project to organize and execute. The previous retaining wall that had been in place for years had deteriorated to the point of becoming a safety hazard. Wright Concrete and Construction was contracted to remove the old wall and install a new and longer-lasting product while having minimal impact on the location’s daily operation. This project was located in downtown Pikeville which meant a lot of daily traffic flow on the city’s main road that we could not impact.
Our crew was able to complete this job quickly due to the resources that we have available among our family of companies. We had one crew constructing the large concrete pre-cast panels off site while another crew was working to remove the old retaining wall, prepare the site, and drill the rock anchors that were to be mounted to the back of the retaining wall segments. We were able to cast hardware into the concrete panels to ensure a strong bond that will last for years. The off-site construction is what allowed our crew to install quickly with minimal impact. Following the construction of the panels, we were able bring a crane in and install the pre-cast panels leaving a visually appealing, long-life, and safe retaining wall.
